When people attend piano bars, they usually expect a chill evening over cocktails. Fawn Calloway has been turning that on its head by quite literally deconstructing piano. Make that… pianos, plural.
In one of the most experimental projects in the city, Calloway is showing us all just how many sounds can come out of a piano, in a piano, on and piano… Turns out when you suspend piano keys from the ceiling by piano strings, you can get the most delightful, sproingy, vibratory noises. Fawn does more than blend genres; she rejects them entirely. You would think this is more performance art than music but the cacophony slowly became so musical and so entrancing it transcended space, time, and form.
Do yourself a favor. Get to your nearest piano bar when Fawn is there. She performs weekly somehow. By the time she’s done, there may not be an intact piano left in all of Toronto.
