Black Chapel’s latest tour evokes fire and brimstone southern breachers while wearing the aesthetics of demon worship. As they scream “everybody wants to be devoured” the crowd erupts in a wave of ecstatic glee. If one believed in such things, you might think the crowds shouting their lyrics were literally summoning undead creatures into existence.
Their fans, who they playfully refer to as their congregation, have began a tradition of absolutely trashing the venues by the end of the show. They’ve turned nearly every Toronto basement into performance art of resembling natural disasters leaving broken furniture, spontaneous found object art, and even blood in their wake…
